How to Prototype

A 2D animation series for undergraduate education
This project was an animation series developed for a course on introductory prototyping taught by Dr.Patrick Pennefather, an instructor at the University of British Columbia.

As the primary animator on this project at UBC Studios, I was responsible for designing the visual style of the animation, sketching the storyboards, and animating the three animation films. Everyone in this collaboration agreed that the designs had to be playful, and imaginative.

The final animation series included three short film on (1) How to Prototype, (2) Documenting Persistently, and (3) How to Prepare for Client Briefing. It continues to support student learning at the University of British Columbia to this day.

How to Prepare for Client Briefing
Storyboarding
Here are some snapshots of the storyboarding process for this series. Going with the theme of playful and imaginative, I decided to experiment with a lot of fun and freeform shapes that would be accented by flow-like motion animation.
Animation Asset Creation
The client was very happy with the fun and freeform shapes built into the design. Now it was my task to take these shapes and sharpen them a bit to create a more polished feel.
Closing Notes
I had so much fun with this project, and the client did too. Being able to empower and support student learning is always such a joy, especially when it pertains to topics of impactful and iterative user experience design.
