An animation on personalized oncogenomics

The Personalized Oncogenomics Program is a cancer treatment program at the BC Cancer Agency that aims to treat various forms of complex cancers through the art of personalized genome sequencing.

This patient education and outreach animation project was a joint collaboration between researchers and patients at the BC Cancer Agency.

As the primary animator on this project, it was fun and meaningful to be able to develop the illustration style and storyboards alongside the collaborative feedback from both researchers and patients.

Pre-Production Process

The pre-production process is the most important visual development stage of the project. I developed the stylesheet to make sure the visuals are aligned with the client vision. During this stage, we worked with the client and iterated on the design with their feedback.

Storyboarding

After confirmation of style, I storyboarded the script with rough thumbnail sketches to ensure the visuals are engaging, and aligned with the contents of the script.

Animation Asset Creation

After storyboard approval, I created high-fidelity animation assets based on the storyboard and agreed upon stylesheet.

Closing Notes

It was so incredible to be involved with a diverse collaboration of healthcare professionals, patients, and other media specialists. Getting direct patient feedback on character design was one of the most rewarding parts of this project.
