ActionADE

Preventing adverse drug events in patients
This project was an educational healthcare animation for teaching pharmacists and patients on how the pharmaceutical alert system in British Columbia is being used to prevent adverse drug events in patients. ActionADE is a joint collaboration between researchers at the University of British Columbia (UBC), Simon Fraser University (SFU) and the College Pharmacists of British Columbia.

As the primary animator on this project at UBC Studios, I was responsible for the visual development of the animation from pre-production to post-production. I developed the visual style, drew the storyboards, and animated the final product.

Pre-Production Process
The pre-production process is the most important visual development stage of the project. I developed the stylesheet to make sure the visuals are aligned with the client vision. During this stage, we worked with the client and iterated on the design with their feedback.
Storyboarding
After confirmation of style, I storyboarded the script with rough thumbnail sketches to ensure the visuals are engaging, and aligned with the contents of the script.
Animation Asset Creation
After storyboard approval, I created high-fidelity animation assets based on the storyboard and agreed upon stylesheet.
Animation Production
I imported the assets into AfterEffects, rigged the character models, and then completed any animation and motion design inside AfterEffects. The audio is then added together with Premiere or AfterEffects for a beautifully crafted final product.
Closing Notes
This was a particularly wonderful project because I had a lot of freedom to play around with the design, and it was meaningful to design something that could help both healthcare professionals and lay audiences, which is something I am very passionate about.

Have an animation project in mind that you'd like to collaborate on? Please feel free to reach out and I would be happy to chat.
